You will be writing basic Spark jobs within a day or two.

I found out I would be working with Spark on an upcoming job so I picked up this book. I am an experienced SW dev and systems integrator and had already installed Spark and Python prior to getting this book. That being said, this book's methodical approach from the basic constructs to the more involved and specialized areas was very well done and organized in a logical progression (tho I did skip around a bit as I am not using AWS or SQL, for now). I was writing my own Spark jobs within a couple of days (using Python) using the Spark shell and stand alone Python scripts. You will of course be accessing the online Spark documentation and API reference documentation to augment your coding and understanding, but, I thought this was an excellent book to get up to speed in a very short time. This book is by no means comprehensive (there is no way any one book can be), but after working thru this book, I am very well prepared to branch out and move onto more advance Spark topics. Highly recommended if you are already involved with software (i.e. a techie), but new to Spark.

Great tutorial book on all Spark features

The book has covered a wide variety of topics on Spark and has good introductions on Hadoop HDFS and YARN. It serves as a comprehensive tutorial on all the important Spark concepts. I would have liked more advanced use cases and more tips on performance tuning.

About the Author

Alessandro Bettini is Emeritus Professor of Physics at the University of Padua, Italy, where he has taught experimental, general, and particle physics for 40 years. He is current Vice-president of the Italian Physical Society and his past posts also include Director of the INFN National Gran Sasso Laboratory, Vice-president of the OECD Global Science Forum, and Director of the Canfranc Underground Laboratory in Spain. Most recently, Professor Bettini’s scientific interests have focused on neutrino physics beyond the standard model and astroparticle phenomena. He is a member of the GERDA experiment, searching for neutrino-less double beta decay. Professor Bettini is the author of approximately 200 articles in international scientific journals as well as several books, including Introduction to Elementary Particle Physics (Cambridge University Press, 2008, 2nd edn).

This little book will help you get started with programming the ESP8266, and is an improvement over searching on YouTube, etc. for information.

I didn't give it five stars, because it still needs to be proofread by someone who writes in English as their first language. I had to read some sections several times to understand exactly what the writer meant to say. I recommend this book if you have the time to read it carefully.

About the Author
Sarina Chugani Molina serves as a faculty member in the Department of Learning and Teaching at the University of San Diego. She has experience working with English Learners from a multitude of backgrounds both within the United States and in International Contexts. She is the program coordinator and instructor of graduate level courses in the M.Ed. in TESOL, Literacy, and Culture program. She has authored English as a Foreign Language textbook series entitled, "Visual English" and most recently, "English for Global Citizens." Dr. Molina provides a practical and hands-on approach to lingusitics

Dr. Molina has done a wonderful job taking the most important aspects of linguistics for ESL teachers and presenting them in a succinct manner. There are many great linguistics books out there, but they are very lengthy and cover too much ground. Dr. Molina gets to the point in this book without sacrificing any details. At the end of each chapter there are activities for readers to test their knowledge and apply what they have read to real life situations. I have read many linguistics books in the past that simply go too in-depth without connecting linguistics to common classroom problems. I am using this book in our introduction to linguistics course in our M.Ed. in TESOL program. I am happy to have a book that provides students a practical approach to linguistics.

An Indispensable Book for All Learners and Teachers of Linguistics

For anyone, pre-service and in-service teachers, as well as all students of English as a second or foreign language, Dr. Molina's book serves an an invaluable guide. This book clearly and concisely captures the essential theories of linguistics and focuses on each of the main features: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Each chapter explains one of the linguistics features, providing the most current and relevant theories and research in the field, followed by classroom exercises as well as useful classroom applications and activities. I wholeheartedly recommend this book as it proves to be a necessary tool in any TESOL related field.

Amazing

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn more about the world of language, especially teachers. It was not only clear and informative with ample amounts of explanations and practice opportunities, but extremely interesting. With information extracted from notable language theorists, learning strategies for students are provided that work. I know I will be using this book throughout my teaching career. Buy this book. You won't regret it.
